Within the manufacturing of semiconductor devises as well as pharmaceutical and bio medical products clean rooms are required to manufacture the products to the strictest clean standards. In semiconductor manufacturing, wafer fab processes usually require a sub-Class 1 to Class 10 cleanrooms, while assembly processes prior to the packaging of the IC chip typically require a Class 1OK cleanroom. For example a sub-class 1 cleanroom only allows for 35 particles measuring 0.1 micron and one particle at 0.5 micron per square foot of air! Particles during the manufacturing of an IC chip can of course be detrimental to the quality of the end product. 

Clean rooms are specially designed enclosed rooms where the environment is highly controlled as are contaminants. The construction of the actual structure requires both opaque materials and transparent materials. SciCon Technologies manufactures a product known as StatiCon® AC-300™ Cast Acrylic. 

This ultra clear sheet is coated with their proprietary clear C-300™ static dissipative coating. The coating prevents tribocharging on the surface when properly grounded. The Surface resistivity of 106 - 108 allows for a highly controlled static decay rate of less than 0.05 seconds all while achieving excellent optical qualities. Since it cannot store static electricity it does not attract foreign particles.
